Compassionate Counseling for Children

From social stress, bullying and trauma, transition, divorce, separation, social media, and post COVID, children are experiencing more pressure than ever.  They may struggle with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem,  academic problems, difficulty making friends, behavioral challenges, or engage in harmful behaviors.

Why More Children Need Support Than Ever Before

Since the COVID pandemic the rate of anxiety among youth has doubled. In an article published by JAMA Pediatrics in March 2022, by 2020 5.6 millions children had been diagnosed with anxiety and 2.4 million had been diagnosed with depression.  About 5 million children also experienced behavior and conduct problems in 2020, a 21% increase from the previous year.  If left untreated childhood deperssion will most likely persist in adulthood.

How Children Show Emotional Distress Through Behavior

Children will often not verbalize that they feel anxious, worried, or depressed. Rather children will show their feelings through their behaviors.  Some examples of such behaviors may be refusing to go to school, frequent complaints of illness or not feeling well, separation anxiety or excessive clinging, temper tantrums, behavioral outbursts, defiance, and insomnia or poor sleep.  You may even notice a change in their eating habits, either eating too much or eating too little.
